Each year, revelers wear their best green outfits to watch the river turn a sparkling emerald, run in the annual Shamrock Shuffle, crawl through the best pubs, or enjoy any of the endless festivities popping up around the city. With so much to choose from, we’re here to break down some of the best St. Patrick’s Day Events in Chicago that will leave you feeling lucky.
Chicago Bar Crawls and Celebrations on St. Patrick's Day
The Iconic Chicago River Dyeing
A beloved St. Patrick’s Day tradition started in 1962, representatives of the Journeymen Plumbers Local Union 130 pour dye into the Chicago River on the morning of the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, giving the river a festive green hue. The vegetable-based dye typically lasts just for the weekend so it’s a sight you don’t want to miss. The Chicago River dyeing takes place between Columbus Drive and State Street, so make sure to head to the Michigan Avenue bridge or the riverwalk to secure your spot along the water.
Wrigleyville Shamrock Crawl, The Ultimate Bar Crawl Experience
Wrigleyville is home to some of the city’s most-loved bars, making it an ideal location for a good old-fashioned bar crawl. Tickets to this event include a t-shirt, breakfast buffet, gift card to use on the crawl, drink specials, giveaways, and access to over 20 different bars. When you’ve had your fill of green beer, make sure to stop by The Dugout and Replay for a can of WYNK. If you want to get a headstart on the celebrations, pick up your t-shirt and goodies the night before on Friday, March 15th, when WYNK will be doing a free tasting. See you there!
River North St. Patrick’s Day Bar Crawl
Just a stone’s throw from the dyeing of the Chicago River, you’ll find another popular bar crawl in River North. Snag a ticket to this event and you’ll enjoy admission to all of the included bars, gift cards to help you purchase some drinks, giveaways, and more. If you’re feeling thirsty for a sip of WYNK along the way, make Theory and Monk’s Pub part of your crawl through the city. The luck of the Irish will be with you every step of the way.
St. Patrick’s Day Rooftop at The Godfrey Hotel
Party like a leprechaun while taking in views of the city at the iconic St. Patrick’s Day Rooftop Celebration at The Godfrey Hotel. Located at the epicenter of the River North Neighborhood, their luxurious rooftop features panoramic skyline views, fire pits, and personal igloos, making it a fantastic location to soak up the celebrations. We’ll cheers to that!
Rizzo's St. Pat's Night
If you are not much of an early bird, head to Rizzo’s for an all-inclusive party in the evening. Directly across from Wrigley Field, Rizzo’s St. Patty’s Day rager includes beer, call drinks, seltzers, appetizers, and more. So grab your closest friends and get ready to dance the night away.
The Shamrock Shuffle, A Chicago St. Patrick's Day Tradition
The annual Shamrock Shuffle starts at Grant Park and traverses through the Loop, where thousands of green-garbed participants take on an 8K run, two-mile walk, or one-mile race. All you have to do is register for the run to receive an exclusive shirt and knit hat, a bib number to display, a finisher's medal, and a drink ticket to use at the post-race party.
