Embracing Balance: The You Can Do Both Pod’s Journey Through a WYNK-Infused Dry January

We teamed up with our long-time friends, Courtney and Ashley, hosts of the You Can Do Both podcast for their WYNK-Infused Dry January. Based in Boston, these two gals delve into the intricacies of living a balanced lifestyle – think 1 am pizza and 6 am workout classes. With our recent launch in Massachusetts, it seemed only fitting to join forces with Courtney and Ashley for a Dry January challenge featuring WYNK. Join us in the conversation as we explore the revelations, challenges, and transformative moments of their first ever Dry January, with WYNK by their side. From breaking social norms to embracing mindful drinking, some unexpected wins were uncovered as a result of taking a breather from alcohol for a month.

Q: What was the most surprising discovery you made during your WYNK-Infused Dry January?

We didn’t need alcohol in social situations the way we thought we did. We drank alternatives like WYNK to provide us some liquid confidence & ended up having just as much fun – if not, more fun than we would have had with alcohol, without the consequences of overindulging.

I found myself sleeping much better without alcohol, particularly on the nights when I treated myself to a WYNK.

Before a night out with friends, we highly recommend cracking a WYNK while you get ready. You’ll leave for the night out with the perfect social buzz, which alleviates any social anxieties around being the only one not ordering a cocktail.

Make plans for early-ish the next morning, and it will motivate you to not overdo it the night before. Try to limit the amount of times a week you’re consuming alcohol – by replacing 1-2 nights of casually drinking alcohol, with 1-2 nights of casually drinking an alternative beverage like WYNK instead.

Stock your fridge with other beverage options, like WYNK, that get you excited to drink. Pour them over ice, add a garnish, and make it an experience the same way you would a cocktail. Don’t be afraid to bring your own social beverages to the party!

Explore activities that don’t revolve around drinking. Some examples we made the most of this month:

  • Ski weekends
  • Game nights in
  • Vision board night
  • Cooking
  • Exercise
  • Watch party movie/TV nights (Reacher, Harry Potter, The Bachelor)

Q: What were your go-to substitutes for alcohol and alternative activities for situations that usually involve drinking?

WYNK, duh. WYNKs quite literally do both and are perfect for any setting – unwinding on the couch after a long day at work, or getting ready for a social night with friends.

In situations without mocktail options,

  • Ashley: Shirley temple order: light grenadine & two limes. The best go-to non-ABV order for restaurants that don’t have a mocktail list.
  • Court: Diet coke with 2 lemons 🙂

Q: How did your friends and family react to your participation in Dry January?

Ashley: My sister was proud because she embodies a very mindful drinking lifestyle, so I got to experience something similar to what her every day looks like in relation to alcohol consumption. I actually inspired my parents to do a dry month as well, both of them committed to doing the next 30 days dry (a major challenge as their social life is more poppin’ than mine).

As for our friends, not a single one of them participated in Dry January but 90% were encouraging and supportive throughout the month. The remaining 10% tried tempting us with a good time & promised to not tell anyone if we cheated… but we persevered lol.

Q: What lessons or insights from this month do you plan to carry with you throughout the rest of the year?

Ashley: Not to be dramatic, but this was the first ever dry month I have successfully completed and I have never felt better. In previous years, it felt like a challenge but I never embodied all of the positives that could come with taking a full month off from alcohol. I’ve experienced more clarity, motivation, and genuine happiness that is usually tough to come by in the Boston winter months. I am proud to say I have signed up for a half marathon in April so I’ve been training throughout January in preparation, something I don’t think would have happened with hangovers, mental fog, and tiredness that often come with nights out drinking with friends.

Court: I foresee WYNK being a drink staple for the remainder of my 2024. I love the idea of having casual drink options that help me unwind, outside of a glass of wine. Dry January unlocked a new self-care hobby of mine, aka taking bubble baths after a long day of work. Rather than pairing my wellness activity with a drink that’ll make me foggy and groggy the next day, I can lean on WYNK to elevate my post-work routine in a healthy, productive way.

We are more than motivated to continue to be mindful about our alcohol consumption in 2024. We don’t miss the hangovers, we don’t miss the mental fog, and we can confidently say that WYNK will be a go-to for every month moving forward, even the ones that aren’t dry.

That concludes our Dry January ‘24.

Our partnership with Courtney and Ashley from You Can Do Both underscores the essence of balance – there’s no need to sacrifice the birthday party, ski weekend, or casual drink when you’ve got WYNK!
